Montmorency County 911

NEMCOG created data to be used with Montmorency County's new 911GIS mapping system which the County purchased from InterAct Public Safety Systems. Previously, no mapping capability was available in the county’s 911 system. After the new system is installed, when a call comes into the dispatch office from either a land line or a cell phone, the new system will zoom to the location of the call and provide the fastest routing instructions for emergency vehicles.

In order to provide the local data necessary to make the system work properly, NEMCOG mapped all addressed structures in the county and placed a point on the map for each. This point layer has an associated address database which, as each call is received, will be matched to the address in the phone company records in order to find the caller's location. For unmapped addresses (new addresses, for example), the system will search through address range fields contained in each road segment and will map the address according to these address ranges. With this new software, dispatchers will also be able to see the location of cell phones that call in an emergency. The GPS signal in the cell phones will provide a latitude/longitude coordinate which will be plotted on the map accordingly. In addition, the dispatchers will be able to see these data layers on a backdrop of aerial photos so they can see the surrounding landscape and the surrounding structures. Other relavant data layers will also be added to the system (such as fire hydrant locations, oil and gas wells, trails, etc.).

The new 911 system is a dynamic system, so a static map doesn’t accurately represent what the system will look like. However, click the following link to see an example of the points that were mapped:
