MAP PRODUCTS PRICING INFORMATION

Background

The Northeast Michigan Council of Governments (NEMCOG) maintains a Geographic Information System (GIS) computer-aided mapping system to facilitate the storage, retrieval, and enhancement of geographic digital data.  The costs associated with maintaining the digital data include a full-time employee, computer equipment maintenance and repair, leasing space in which to house the equipment, and incidental consumables such as office supplies.  The prices of map products reflect the costs of expenditures made by NEMCOG to maintain, retrieve, and distribute its digital data, and are consistent with the State's Michigan Resource Inventory System (MIRIS) pricing scale, which reflects the expenditures made by the State to maintain and distribute its digital data sets.

Policy

Ownership of all digital data created by NEMCOG is retained by NEMCOG.  No other organization, business, individual, or agency is authorized to rent, distribute, give, or sell any of the digital data created by NEMCOG.  Any authorization from NEMCOG to use its digital data must be in writing.

NEMCOG has access to digital data generated by its data sharing partners.  The ownership of the digital data is retained by each entity which generated the digital data.  No other organization, business, individual, or agency is authorized to rent, distribute, give, or sell any of the digital data.  Any authorization from the entity to use its digital data must be arranged between the data owner and the potential user of that data.

Specification of Geographic Digital Data

The projection system used is Michigan GeoRef (NAD 1983 Hotine Oblique Mercator Azimuth Natural Origin) (meters).  NEMCOG uses a variety of mapping software formats including: ArcGIS and Maptitude.

Map features are separated into different layers; one set of files for each layer.  The layers are generally separated geographically by political boundaries such as township coverage or county-wide coverage (8 Counties in NEMCOG's region include: Alcona, Alpena, Cheboygan, Crawford, Montmorency, Oscoda, Otsego, and Presque Isle).

Digital data will be created using different sources at different scales.  Data layers created using the MIRIS section corners as references generally have an accuracy of +/- 40 feet (a scale of 1:24,000).

The price for printed maps that are on file are priced according to the size of the map which reflects the amount of paper, ink and time required to print the map on the plotter.

D-Size (approximately 24" x 36") map: $15.00 each                    If a large quantity of the same map is
