The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Environment requires communities to have a DNRE-approved recreation plan in order to qualify for DNR Recreation Grant programs. Recreation Plans are valid for a five year period. NEMCOG staff works with local communities to create recreation plans as well as assists these communities with the grant application
process. There are many steps involved in creating a DNRE-approved recreation plan, and NEMCOG staff works closely with Planning Commissions and Recreation Boards to guide them through the process as well as to create the plan itself.
